Cabell Library on Monroe Park Campus offers comfortable study spaces, a wide variety of academic resources such as books, peer-reviewed articles, & DVDs, and research help for all VCU students, faculty, and staff. VCU Libraries’ Ask Us page lists the various ways to contact the library for research assistance, including chat, text, email, and in-person help. Other Cabell highlights include silent study spaces on the fourth floor, The Workshop–a digital and media creation studio–on the lower-level, and, of course, Starbucks, to fuel your study sessions.

The FILL is an open work space for any students currently taking UNIV courses. The FILL provides private, individual, and group work spaces, stationary and mobile white boards, two computers, a scanner, and a pay-to-print station. The FILL is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. Come join us!

The Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity (SAEO) office welcomes and serves VCU students with documented disabilities who are registered for classes on the Monroe Park Campus. They can help determine appropriate academic adjustments such as program and exam modifications, classroom accommodations, and auxiliary aids once students have self-identified and completed the eligibility process.

The Writing Center offers support for currently enrolled VCU students and faculty. Services for students include one-on-one consultations and workshops on a wide variety of topics associated with academic writing, reading, and critical thinking. As you work on your writing assignments, you will benefit the most if you plan multiple visits to the Writing Center – for brainstorming and planning, for developing and organizing, and then for revising. Students are now able to schedule appointments online. They can do this via UCMe, or they can also click “Advising Appointments” in the VCU portal. English Language Resources at the Writing Center provides specialized support to English Language Learners at VCU. This service encourages success by helping students develop their vocabulary and reading comprehension, fluency in composition, oral communication, and understanding of American academic rhetorical expectations.

The Workshop provides hardware, software, spaces, and expertise to help the VCU community produce creative work of all kinds. Practically, that means concentrating in three main areas: graphics, audio and video projects; the world of hands-on making; and exploring new and emerging technologies. OMSA coordinates month-long celebrations such as Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQ History Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and more. Their programming also includes regularly intercultural dialogues, cultural excursions, a diversity film series, and discussion groups for men of color, women of color, and LGBTQIA students. Their second floor offices offer study and recreational space, and walk-in support for students.

The Common Book is intended to create the opportunity to explore complex social issues through an interdisciplinary lens. In addition to integrating the book into the Focused Inquiry curriculum of UNIV 111 and UNIV 112, faculty in University College foster partnerships across both campuses and within the broader Richmond community. Students are provided opportunities to explore the real-world application and problem-solving each fall.

The RamPantry exists to address food insecurity by providing in-need VCU students with healthy, culturally appropriate, emergency food. Any VCU student with a VCU ID can access the pantry. The aim of the University Counseling Services is to provide comprehensive evaluation and consultation for students on best options for their mental health care.
